5th Grade Fun Night – 6/15 – Parent Volunteers Needed

E-mail Print PDF

Year-end is an exciting time for our graduating fifth graders, and what better way to celebrate than at the 5th Grade Fun Night - Friday, June 15th from 6:30-9:00pm!! The tropical/beach themed party will feature a DJ, games, yearbooks, snacks, photos and more.

Unfortunately for all of you fun-loving parents, this party is for students ONLY.

However, in order to make this event a success, we do need your help! There are many volunteer opportunities that include set up, check-in and check-out, food & drink table, DJ helpers (to help with games), hallway activities, chaperones/monitors, photographers and clean up.

Click here to volunteer. This is a really fun event to participate in, and our goal is to accommodate as many people as possible. Therefore, please sign up for one time slot only.

We would also love to borrow any beach/Hawaiian luau decorations you may have. Specifically we could use:

  • electric palm trees (don’t laugh, people do have these!)
  • surfboards (real or decorative)
  • large bright colored tubs (for ice and drinks)
  • bright colored beach towels
  • any other tropical decorations you have and would be willing to lend

If you have any items that you can lend, or if you have any questions, please contact Kim Kelly at (978) 203-9220 or kimkelly21@comcast.net.

Thank you for helping to make this a fun and successful event for our graduating 5th graders!

Pennies With a Purpose

E-mail Print PDF

Hello first grade families. We've started studying Japan, and the Japan Festival is coming soon! From now until the Japan Festival, the first grade will work together to collect pennies to benefit the Japanese Tsunami Relief Fund.

ANNOUNCING... PENNIES WITH A PURPOSE!

WHAT: A penny drive to benefit the Japanese Tsunami Relief Fund

WHO: Haynes First Graders*

WHY: Work together to help others in an area of the world we're learning about

HOW: Collect pennies from home (from piggy banks, earned by doing simple chores, contributed by others who may be interested in donating... this part is up to you!) and bring them into your classroom. We'll spend the weeks leading up to the festival collecting pennies and at the opening ceremony of the festival we'll announce the total amount that we were able to raise together.

*Families who do not have a first grader but are interested in participating are encouraged to donate via a first grade friend or neighbor, or email jksparks@gmail.com.

Kindergarten Chicken Festival

E-mail Print PDF

Dear Kindergarten Families:

On Wednesday June 6th, Haynes Kindergartners will celebrate the annual Chicken Festival!  This festival is an event full of games, crafts, music, and food all focused around the chicken theme.  At the end of the festival, parents and children come together for a group sing-a-long and of course, the chicken dance!  The festival will be around 2 ½ hours, from 9-11:30am.  Be sure to mark this date on your calendars!

We need many adult volunteers (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, guardians) to help make this festival a success!  We have some volunteers, but are hoping that even more of you will be interested in helping us with this fun festival.  We are currently in need of people to help out at the food and games stations.  We also need a few more Farmers who will act as the “tour guides” leading groups of children from station.  Farmers also help with set-up and clean-up.  There is room for anyone interested and willing to help!  Please click here to sign-up to volunteer.  Please note:  If you have already volunteered via email, thank you!  You do not need to sign-up again here.

If you plan to participate in the Chicken Festival, please make sure that your CORI check if up-to-date.  If you are unsure if your CORI paperwork is current, please check with Beth Renner at the school’s front desk.

Please consider volunteering!  This is a fun event and a great way to meet other kindergarten parents.  Feel free to contact us if you have any questions, ideas or if you would like more information.

Drumlin Farm Naturalist visits Kindergarten Classes

E-mail Print PDF

On May 8, 2012 drumlin2Drumlin Farm Naturalist Sandy Verger visited the Kindergarten classrooms. She presented a program called Hatching out; they  talked about animals that hatch out of eggs.  The students were able to observe and have a front row seat in front of a Pekin duck.   They were also able to touch a live corn snake.  The program directly correlates with the current science curriculum and was funded by HOP.   The kindergarteners now have real eggs and are incubating them in their classrooms.  They are anxiously waiting for them to hatch sometime in June.  Be sure to ask your kindergartens about Paddy the Duck and the corn snake.

aquariumOn May 3, 2012, The New England Aquarium visited the first graders to present a traveling program called Tidepools Alive.  The students discovered how coastal animals have adapted to their particular environments.  They examined three different shoreline habitats, by handling and observing animals such as sea urchins, periwinkles, starfish, hermit crabs, oysters and scallops.  They discussed the characteristics of these animals in the three Tidepools.  This program directly correlates with the first grade science program on habitats and is funded by HOP.  Ask your first grader about the exciting animals they were able to touch during this Tidepool activity!
